Rankings is a bunch of a few things put together to mean nothing in the end, like these words for example. Here’s the deal. The only thing rankings do is psychologically reaffirm an individual or teams expected place. The ranked teams get an ego boost that adds to their confidence. The lesser are pigeon-holed into an inferiority complex. You know on any given day anybody could beat anybody on comparable levels, which is just the nature of the sport. Rankings are based on a consistency of different factors over a period of time. When it comes to the game at hand, each game is like a two-sided coin – here to lose it or here for the taking. People look so astonished when there is an “upset”, NO; chance and circumstance just fell to one side that day. In saying that, the success of a team comes from factors that they can control within no matter what is said about them. If you want to call it luck, but it’s an accumulation of various efforts that achieves the desired result. And if I were in a coaching position, I’d say the same thing to my team. Rankings mean @$#%.
